Things to do in Gosau,
Austria series Episode - 1
When I was young and if someone asked " Where in Europe would you travel"? Switzerland 'Innocently I would reply. Little did I know that universe can take you anywhere and it has better plans you ever even had thought of, Anddd Austria would become one of my favorite country in Europe. Let me show you through my eyes.
We stayed 3 weeks in Austria and our first stay was in Gosau for 4 nights which I loved the most. It is the perfect amount of serenity you will ever need, people mostly go to Hallstatt and other famous places which are great too but I like to explore the unexplored. And if you would like a calm summer vacation away from the daily busy lives the Gosau is highly recommended. I believe it is underrated for what it really has to offer - The beautiful evening walks with people having beautiful evening, kids enjoying in the park,, horses by the side of little water canal with church bells ringing - Doesn't it sound just like a storybook.
Places to visit from Gosau :
First thing you must do is a Gosau is a perfect place to stay and make day trips to nearby towns
1. Hallstatt ; It took us only 20 minutes drive from our Cooee alpine hotel in Gosau to reach this beaut. I am so glad we made a day trip and we left early in the morning and that is the key to have the view point to yourself and avoid the crowd. We reached before 8;30 am ,walked to the view point and had almost 30 minutes to ourself there.
It just felt like I am in a fairytale, cute and beautiful streets by the lake side called Hallstatter see, just can't describe enough.Colorful flowers on the beautiful little windows and amazing streets just like we watch in animated movies. Straight into a fairytale.
Hallstatt Salt mines - Salzwelten Hallstatt, After enjoying a lovely morning here we then took funicular (EUR 31 per person for Funicular & Salt mine tour) and had a detailed tour of the world's oldest salt mine. I have never had a tour that is so informative and filled with much fun. 2 wooden slides inside and guide explained in German and Enlightening language and little wooden train ride to the exit point.
Note : Must wear sturdy shoes. And they give you a miner suits to wear and inside the mine it is 8 degrees.
2. Gosausee - Just 15 minutes drive from Gosau, we reached this gorgeous lake names Vorderer Gosausee. It really was one of the best day we had in this trip. This is around 4 kilometers walk around the lake and is accessible, just wear sturdy shoes sports or hiking and it takes around 1.5 hour.
Gosaukamm Gondola- Also we took Gosaukamm cable car up to the Zweiselalm (Tickets EUR 18per person) and reached the station from there we can see the Gosau sky ladder walk. but we just went for a hike and enjoyed the panoramic views. Next time when I go I will climb the sky ladder. Lets gather the courage till then ;) hehe
3. Admont. - 1 hour & 30 mins away from Gosau there is this gorgeous town in the state of Styria named Admont. Just 1 hour & 30 mins of drive away from Gosau there is this gorgeous town in the state of Styria named Admont. most popular for Admont Abbey, a monastery founded in 1074.
It was drizzling and we were walking in the streets of beautiful admont- Oh what a magical day. Then we visited museum & Library- Tickets to which were 14euro per person.
Admont Abbey contains the largest monastic library in the world and also scientific collection. It is known for its Baroque architecture, art, and manuscripts (Baroque architecture is highly decorative and theatrical style which appeared in Italy in the early 17th century and gradually spread across Europe)
